Greetings All,
The Chamber of Commerce and Athy Enterprise Network* are asking all of the business community to join us in Emily Square on Friday 1st July 2016 between 12.30 and 2 pm. This is your opportunity to have a say in how Emily Square is redeveloped. The proposed redesign of this important civic space is the best opportunity in a generation for the town to get a major facelift which in turn could act as a catalyst for the whole town’s regeneration as has happened in similar towns such as Clonakilty, Lismore and Westport.
Kildare County Council has appointed a design team, The Paul Hogarth Company, to prepare an urban improvement scheme for Emily Square. Before they start work, they want to hear from as many residents, business owners, shoppers and visitors as possible.
- What do you like about Emily Square?
- What brings you to the space?
- What could be improved?
- What kind of square would you like to see in the future?
Please come and share your thoughts and ideas for the square, so that these can be taken into account by the design team. Your input is crucial. This event will also include fun for the family with face painting, jugglers and a live radio broadcast if you have children off school.
In the afternoon at 3 pm ‘Athy Boat Tours’ will be officially launched on the River Barrow. This could be the perfect choice for a corporate event or staff treat.
There’s a very nice video of the boat tours here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zpbpobfqOJk
It is hoped that refreshments and sandwiches will be provided from 12.45 pm at the Athy Heritage Centre, courtesy of Kildare Co. Council with a short presentation by the design team (details to be confirmed later).
The Emily Square public consultations will continue until 7 pm.

*One of the main recommendations in the Athy Regeneration Plan commissioned by the Athy Enterprise Network and published late last year was that an ongoing enterprise awareness programme should be organised as a monthly structured event to encourage Local Enterprise and Commerce in the town. The Athy Enterprise Network is made up of representatives of the Athy Lions Club, Athy Enterprise Company, Kildare County Council and Kildare Leader Partnership. The Athy Enterprise Network now hosts the monthly networking meetings in association with North Kildare Chamber who facilitate similar events elsewhere in the county.
