The World Amateur Golf Team Championships will be staged at Carton House this summer as the world’s best players come together for a two week festival of Golf. Hosted by the Golfing Union of Ireland and the Ladies Golf Union, teams from 72 countries will play and stay in Maynooth, the majority of which will reside at a special “Championship Village “styled campus in Maynooth University.
The women’s world championship for the Espirito Santo Trophy gets underway from the 29th August and a week later the men’s teams will arrive to take part in the Eisenhower Trophy competition. 10,000 spectators and over 1,000 players and officials will visit Kildare and Allan Shine, CEO of the Chamber said this morning, “This is the first time the event is been hosted in Ireland and we are extremely delighted that Carton House is the host venue. It will be a welcomed economic boost for North Kildare and restaurants, bars, hotels and visitor attractions will all benefit from this two week golf festival. Spectators will be able to see up close the future stars of golf as previous participants include Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy and Annika Sorenstam”.
