Punchestown Racecourse today announced that Mongey Communications are to sponsor the prestigious La Touche Cup cross country race on day three of the 2019 Punchestown Festival, Thursday 2nd May.

The Mongey Communications La Touche Cross Country Steeplechase is widely considered to be one of the most historically significant races on the Irish racing calendar. Named in honour of the La Touche family, who gifted, in trust,  the land on which Punchestown racecourse operates, this €30,000 contest is a true test of stamina. The four mile two furlong challenge incorporates over 35 jumping efforts over a combination of natural obstacles such as laurel hedges, drop banks and traditional steeplechase fences. Despite being one of the longest races on the jumps circuit the Mongey Communications La Touche often produces the most thrilling of finishes with the tightest of margins.

Fame surrounds this historic race where the most notorious obstacle on the track is Ruby’s Double Bank named after the champion jockey’s late grandfather Ruby Walsh Senior. Probably the most famous winning connection in the race was former James Bond actor Sean Connery who was involved with seven times winner of the Friends First La Touche, Risk of Thunder.

With over 50 years experience Mongey Communications is the go to market leader when it comes to providing a complete technical solution for industrial, commercial and large scale events. The Naas based family run firm provide audio, visual, broadband, WiFi and radio communication packages to events and clients such as Croke Park, An Garda Siochana, Aviva Stadium, MCD and Aiken Promotions. Mongey Communications were awarded the contract for last year’s World Meeting of Families featuring the visit of Pope Francis.

David Mongey, Managing Director spoke of today’s announcement “The Mongey Family are delighted to be involved in the La Touche Cup which is synonymous with the history and tradition of Punchestown. We have a  long association with the home of Irish racing having been involved there in a business capacity for over fifty years. When the opportunity arose to get involved on a sponsorship level with such a unique and historic event as the La Touche Cup we jumped at it. Both Cyril and myself have thoroughly enjoyed working with the Punchestown team as the business has grown and developed and look forward to continuing this partnership”.

Speaking on behalf of Punchestown the racecourse Commercial Manager Janet Creighton said “We are delighted to announce the Mongey Communications La Touche sponsorship. The race is synonymous with Punchestown and is steeped in history which is something that David, Cyril and the Mongey Family particularly value. We look forward to further strengthening the partnership between Mongey Communications and Punchestown”.
